Hancom partners with iFlytek to build AI voice tech joint venture

Korean software developer Hancom Group teams up with iFlytek, one of China’s leading artificial engineering (AI) voice recognition companies, and conducts a variety of businesses based on AI voice technology.

Hancom held a press conference with iFlytek at a hotel in central Seoul Wednesday and signed a contract to create a joint venture company, Accufly.AI. The two companies plan to focus on fintech, edutech, smart healthcare and hardware solutions by integrating AI technology through the joint venture firm.

iFlytek is one of the four AI enterprises designated by the Chinese government. It is on par with Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent. iFlytek, in particular, boasts world-class technologies in the voice platform segment, reporting 98.1% in voice recognition accuracy and 98% in voice recognition accuracy of 22 Chinese dialects. Its specialties include AI-based smart education, smart city and smart court. The company posted sales of 8.06 billion yuan (1.35 trillion won) last year.

Hancom and iFlytek are ready to use Accufly.AI to co-develop a Korean language-based AI contact center and operate fintech projects. This will target banks, insurance firms and mobile telecom companies primarily in compliance with Korea’s financial environment. The Korean language-based AI contact center will be developed jointly based on the technology and operational experience of iFlytek running an AI contact center in China for banks.

The edutech business, which is intended to develop interactive personalized learning solutions, will set sights on specialized language education based on the strength of AI voice technology. In the smart healthcare segment, the joint venture will exploit technical expertise of “Xiaoyi,” a robot that passed a medical licensing exam for the first time in the world. Hancom plans to push aggressively for the exchange of technologies on voice recognition electronic chart input and world-renowned image analysis.

The hardware solution segment is one of their major joint venture projects. In May, the two companies will unveil AI solution “GenieBiz” and portable translation machine “GinieTalk Go.” GenieBiz allows users to record and share what is discussed in meetings and boasts translation capabilities of 5 languages, enabling them to have business meetings freely. GenieTalk Go, capable of translating 7 languages , enables 4 languages even without internet connections.

Accufly.AI co-CEO Oh Soon-young said, “We will offer an AI living platform based on our specialized AI voice technology. This will become an AI-focused global enterprise through our efforts to graft AI voice technology onto all industrial sectors.” /edshin@decenter.kr
